Koh Samui thailand is an island off the east coast of the Kra Isthmus in Thailand, close to the mainland Surat Thani town. It is Thailand's second largest island with great natural beauty and variety. It has been attracting over the years many foreigners, especially from Europe. An interesting fact comes to light is that many foreign travellers who came to Koh Samui on a vacation, fell in love of its beauty and eventually decided to settle here. One of the reasons why people come to the place is, its beaches which remain stunning after decades of development. Besides there is not much to do then lying on the beach with a cold beer in hand and relaxing on the island. Though there are pair of rocks on Lamai to amuse some visitors, Bang Rak has a large but nondescript Buddha statue, and there are some waterfalls but of minor interest.

This season is typically mid December through March. The hot season starts when the ground has dried from a lack of rain and sand dusts the road. The over-head tropical sun is brighter and hotter than usual. Many tropical fruits ripen during this season. This season starts in April and lasts until the cooling rain, which begins in September / October.

Most beaches in Koh Samui have white sand and are fringed with coconut palms. Many resorts and hotels are located just a couple of meters from the beach. The most popular are beaches are Chaweng, Lamai, Mae Nam, Big Buddha and Bo Phut.

Koh Samui's most popular attraction is the Big Buddha sitting 15 meters tall. The statue of Buddha was built in 1972 by the local society to give visitors a place to pay respect to The Lord Buddha. This monumental landmark is placed on the island's Northern shore.
